It fills in a little bit about William George Evan's family. It looks like the Evans beat the Normans to Texas by 50 years.

When Grandma Layne's father (W.G. Evans) built the court house in Palo Pinto, being a drinker he went down to the creek early one morning to quench his thirst. His hat fell off, his beard caught on a bramble, he heard a still small voice say "George", he was so frightened he ran and never drank again. Sally Sisk Bassett says she heard he drowned when his hat fell off. Who knows
