Notes:

Isaac Johnson Norman. His wife was Mary Jessie Perteet. I have the whole history in the Meadows-Norman Families book. Not a real happy story but a story of persistence and faith about a family caught in the Civil War. Isaac was married Dec. 24, 1862, enlisted in Aug 4, 1863 , age 26 and was a corporal, Georgia State guard. He fell ill with TB and was discharged August 1964 and died of the same in 1874. Mary Jessie was left with Kate, Luther (our Grand father), Mary, John, and Elvira. The family was slit up for a time but then Mary taught school and Kate keep the smaller children at home. Mary Jessie Perteet Norman left Georgia in 1905 and went to Oklahoma to homestead land. She was a "women keen wit, indomitable spirit and strong faith." When her daughter Kate was widowed 1918 with small children she wrote her: "Dear Kate, In you troubles trust your God. He will take care of the widow and orphans I was left in worse circumstances." She was successful in owning her land as Oklahoma Territory attained statehood in 1907. She lived the remainder of her life near Mangum, OK either near or with her daughter, Elivira. She died in Mangum on May 5, 1920, (born 1844) and is buried in Mangum Cemetery. Eric
